Fresh off an emotional last-second win over the Atlantic Cup rival New York Red Bulls, D.C. United host a red-hot New York City FC team that have won three straight games, including a decisive 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium Wednesday night.

NYCFC won the last meeting between the sides at Audi Field, with goals by Alexandru Mitrita and Heber last April..

D.C. United

D.C. United went to Harrison, N.J. winless in their last six regular season games, scoring just three goals in their previous five games and down several starters. And just when it looked like they'd endure yet another goalless game, Erik Sorga scored the winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time to snap a 10-game winless streak against the New York Red Bulls. It was the latest the lone goal in a match was scored in MLS history.

“A gutsy performance from the guys, really proud,” said head coach Ben Olsen. “It was an easy game to throw in the towel but these guys showed a lot of resiliency. Extremely proud of them tonight.”

New York City FC

It was a professional, complete and dominant performance as New York City picked up a third consecutive win by defeating the Revolution, 2-0, at Gillette Stadium. Maxi Moralez started and played 60 minutes, Heber scored his long-awaited first goal of the goal of the season, which was set up by Anton Tinnerholm, who continued his stellar place in the restart.

How impressive were NYCFC? The Revs played no one better this year, Bruce Arena said with a proverbial tip of the cap.

"New York City [FC] is probably the best team we’ve played this year and they showed it on the night," Arena said post-match. "We weren’t up to their quality and the way they battled."
