New York City FC appear to be interested in former US international Oguchi Onyewu, with the club hosting the 33-year-old center back at training on Tuesday.
Onyewu was released by English club Charlton Athletic earlier this month. He made three appearances for the Championship side in the recently-completed 2014-15 season.
Onyewu, who has 69 career caps with the US national team, does not need to go through the allocation process to enter MLS, and would instead able to join a team via discovery claim. The Washington, D.C. native has been linked to MLS in the past, training with D.C. United last summer and saying in June 2013 that his hometown club would “probably be first on my list” of MLS teams he’d want to join.
