Transfer Watch: Damien Perquis

Toronto FC are considering a move for Polish international Damien Perquis to shore up their central defense, the Toronto Sun reported on Thursday.

A French-born talent who started his international career in France's youth system, Perquis would provide experience and depth for TFC, who saw academy product Doneil Henry depart for Europe late last year. And while Nick Hagglund contributed at center back in his surprisingly effective rookie season, Perquis appears to be a likely candidate to start alongside veteran Steven Caldwell should the Reds succeed in securing his services.

But head coach Greg Vanney told the Sun that Perquis, who currently plays for Spanish side Real Betis, is only one of several candidates on TFC's radar.

“We’ve watched him and I’ve played against him,” said Vanney, a center back himself during much of his own playing career on both sides of the Atlantic. “He’s a guy we’ve kept interest in and have watched him progress while he has been there. But we’ve put out interest in a number of players.

“There’s still a long process that needs to go on for that to be finalized.”
