Kyle Bekker is heading south for the winter.
The Ontario, Canada native, who was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, was traded on Wednesday from Toronto FC to FC Dallas in exchange for allocation money.
“There was an opportunity to strengthen our club via trade,” Toronto FC GM Tim Bezbatchenko said in a club statement. “I’d like to thank Kyle for his commitment to Toronto FC. He was a great contributor and we wish him all the best.”
The 24-year-old central midfielder only managed 16 total starts and 29 appearances in his two years at Toronto FC. He helps fill a hole for FC Dallas, who so far have lost veteran center mids Adam Moffatt and Hendry Thomas in the offseason.
Bekker, who has 13 caps with the senior Canadian national team, is the third player with MLS experience acquired by FC Dallas this offseason after goalkeeper Dan Kennedy and winger Atiba Harris.
