Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco wins third MLS Player of the Week award after hat trick vs. NYCFC

Three times the fun: Giovinco wins his third Player of the Week award

It is fitting that on the week Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco scored his first career MLS hat trick, he also picked up his third MLS Player of the Week award of 2015.

Giovinco was unanimously voted Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for his three-goal and one assist performance in TFC's 4-4 draw against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. Despite missing a first-half penalty, the Italian Designated Player made up for the blemish by scoring a nine-minute hat trick (the third-fastest in MLS history) in the first 45, then setting up Marky Delgado's goal in the second half.

The Player of the Week honor is Giovinco's third since joining MLS this offseason, after notching back-to-back awards in early June.

Giovinco is the only player in the top-five in MLS in both goals and assists, ranking second overall with 11 goals in fourth in the league with eight assists.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
