TFC's Giovinco says "I'm playing better than I was in Europe"

Sebastian Giovinco’s recent eye-popping performance in Toronto FC’s 5-0 dismantling of Orlando City SC was just the latest bit of evidence that the Italian attacker is putting in a MVP-caliber season in his first foray in MLS.

But after a goal and assist upped his season totals to 17 and 12, respectively, where does 2015 stack up in terms of his entire career, the entirety of which was spent in Italy before joining TFC this offseason?

He didn’t mince words in that regard in an article that appeared Wednesday in The Guardian.

“I’m playing better than I was in Europe,” Giovinco said.

He said it has a lot to do with his health.

“At the moment, I’m very happy with my performance,” he continued. “The last couple of years, I haven’t been in very good shape. And now, I’m very happy to keep scoring, helping the team to achieve their goals. But I’m feeling better as well.”

His new coach certainly ranks Giovinco’s talents highly, which he'll look to exploit once again in TFC's Heineken Rivalry Week matchup Saturday against the Montreal Impact (4 pm ET; MLS LIVE in US, TSN in Canada).

“In terms of skill, ability and talent, he’s got to be among the best players who have ever come through this league, and maybe at the top of that list,” Greg Vanney said.
