Jozy Altidore exits TFC-New England match with hamstring injury

Toronto FC and US national team fans found their hearts in their mouths in the early going of the Reds’ road match vs. the New England Revolution on Saturday, as striker Jozy Altidore left the game after just 21 minutes, limping and grimacing with what appeared to be an injury to his right hamstring.

Led by Altidore and his strike partner Sebastian Giovinco, TFC started the match brightly. But Altidore hit the turf at Gillette Stadium in the 18th minute after knocking a dangerous low cross through the Revs box that narrowly missed teammate Jonathan Osorio. Shortly after, he quickly signaled the Toronto bench for a substitution. He was eventually replaced by Luke Moore.

Looking frustrated, Altidore gingerly made his way off the field and headed straight to the locker room, slamming a water ball against the ground in frustration.

"I don't have a real indication of how bad it is or how long it will take for Jozy,” head coach Greg Vanney said after the game. “But when I saw him he looked positive.”

According to TorontoFC.ca, "Altidore is expected to undergo a scan when the team returns to Toronto on Sunday."

Altidore famously injured his hamstring in the first half of the USMNT’s opening match of the 2014 World Cup, a 2-1 win over Ghana, and was forced to miss out on the rest of the tournament as a result.
