Toronto FC rookie attacker Ifunanyachi Achara has undergone successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a lateral collateral ligament in his left knee, the club announced Thursday.
The surgery was performed on Tuesday by Dr. Tim Dwyer and Dr. Danny Whelan at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Achara will begin rehabilitation and will miss the remainder of the 2020 season.
Following the surgery, Achara tweeted he was thankful for the support during a difficult time as he took the first step toward recovery.
The 22-year-old, who was selected 25th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, carried over a strong preseason by scoring on his MLS debut — the winner against NYCFC on March 7.
