“We are pleased to sign Brandon Vazquez to a contract extension,” GM Gerard Nijkamp said in a club statemet. “While still a developing player, Brandon has earned this opportunity by demonstrating his potential throughout this season. We look forward to his continued development within our roster.”

“I’m really happy to be able to sign a new contract to continue playing with FC Cincinnati,” Vazquez added. “I’m very excited for what the future holds for this club and can’t wait to have a chance to play at the new stadium. ORIGINAL, Oct. 26 1 pm ET: FC Cincinnati and forward Brandon Vazquez have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, a source told MLSsoccer.com.

Vazquez, 22, has two goals and an assist in 673 minutes this season (16 appearances, seven starts), his first with FC Cincy. The forward was selected by Nashville SC in the 2019 Expansion Draft and immediately traded to the second-year club. He has five goals and three assists in his MLS career thus far.

The Orange and Blue believe Vazquez still has potential to improve, plus has proven to be a regular contributor already. Head coach Jaap Stam has started the player in six of their last nine matches.

Vazquez originally came to MLS ahead of the 2017 season, signing with Atlanta United after spending time in the Club Tijuana academy. The US youth international was primarily the backup to Josef Martinez in Atlanta. He made 32 appearances with Atlanta over two seasons, including seven starts, spanning 901 minutes.

The 22-year-old will continue to look to earn minutes as FC Cincinnati further evolves their roster. Vazquez, Jurgen Locadia and Yuya Kubo are the club's top options at center forward.
