It is one of the most intimidating home venues in Major League Soccer, and now Seattle Sounders FC's stadium has a new name.
The venue, also home to the Seattle Seahawks, will be known as Lumen Field, the NFL franchise announced Thursday. Previously the stadium was called Qwest Field and most recently CenturyLink Field after its origins as Seahawks Stadium in 2002.
The telecommunications company rebranded to Lumen Technologies in September and the stadium’s new name is pending approval later today by the Washington State Public Stadium Authority, the Washington State public corporation owner of the stadium.
The first sporting event under the stadium’s new name will be held Thursday when the Seahawks host the Arizona Cardinals.
The Sounders first match at Lumen Field will be a highly anticipated Round One matchup against LAFC Nov. 24 (10:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info).
