AVAYA STADIUM, San Jose, Calif.
September 12, 2015 (WEEK 28, MLS Game #281)
7:30 p.m. PT (CSN-CA; JOEtv)
It will be a crucial meeting of clubs in the Heritage Cup in the chase for places in the MLS Cup Playoffs when the San Jose Earthquakes play host to Seattle Sounders FC at Avaya Stadium on Saturday evening. The Quakes sit in seventh place in the conference, three points out of the top six, after their four-game winning and shutout streak was put to an end in a 2-1 home loss to Philadelphia Union last weekend. Sounders FC are one of three teams tied for that final playoff position just ahead of the Quakes, coming off a second consecutive victory in a 2-1 win against Toronto FC last weekend at CenturyLink Field.

- The Earthquakes saw their shutout streak end at 448 minutes – the longest in MLS this season, and the second-longest in club history – but saw their four-game winning run come to an end as Philadelphia Union hit for two late goals for a 2-1 win Saturday at Avaya Stadium.
- Clint Dempsey scored his first goal in MLS play since May 9, and Obafemi Martins scored his fourth goal in four games after his return from injury, as Sounders FC has put together back-to-back wins in league play for the first time since the end of May following their 2-1 win against Toronto FC on Saturday evening at CenturyLink Field.
