Could the Chicago Fire be closing in on their next head coach?

A report from Goal USA indicates that Chicago, who parted ways with previous head coach Frank Yallop in September, have tabbed US national team assistant coach Tab Ramos as their top target.

New Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez, who took over the position at the conclusion of the Fire’s regular season and is leading the coaching search, has a history with Ramos from their ties with US Soccer.

Rodriguez previously served as the federation's managing director of national team advisory services.

Goal reports that the Fire have also interviewed former New York Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke and US U-17 coach Richie Williams for the position, but that Ramos, who is also currently the US U-20 head coach, is their top candidate.
The report goes on to claim that former Toronto FC coach John Carver, who spent several years on the technical staff of English Premier League icons Newcastle United, is interested in making a return to MLS.
