The question over just how hot Pablo Mastroeni’s seat is as the Colorado Rapids head coach has been answered by the Denver Post’s Woody Paige.
The columnist reported Wednesday on The Sports Show that Mastroeni, who is in his second season at the helm, will return for a third season. Paige cited inside sources near the top of the Rapids organization.
“Here’s a scoop for you,” Paige said. “Pablo’s not going anywhere. They’re going to get him some help as head coach.”

The Rapids are currently in last place in the Western Conference with an 8-10-10 record; last year they finished in eighth place with an 8-18-8 record. Rapids president Tim Hinchey told the Post last month that he would like to have the former Miami Fusion, Colorado Rapids and LA Galaxy player and US international back, but would be evaluating the season’s final stretch of games.
The Rapids have been on a bit of an upswing recently, winning three straight in late August. They are currently unbeaten in four of their last five heading into their road match Saturday against Toronto FC (2 pm ET; MLS LIVE in US, TSN1 in Canada).
