TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
The New York Red Bulls had another bid rejected for Hull City midfielder Leonardo da Silva Lopes, according to the Hull Daily Mail.
The latest offer was reportedly for $2.3 million and with the transfer window closing in England today, it’s unlikely the Red Bulls will be able to land the highly touted 21-year-old box-to-box midfielder.
The initial “seven-figure bid” came early in January and that was quickly thwarted by the English Championship side.
“He’s not for sale,” Hull coach Grant McCann said on Jan. 4. “It’s as simple as that. He’s been here for four months and he’s growing every time he plays. He’s getting better and better.
“He’s got energy, pace, a chance of direction, he’s got a calmness. He’s played 150 or something games at 21. It doesn’t surprise me because he’s got so much more to come, but he’s not for sale.”
Lopes has been a mainstay in Hull City’s lineup this year, making 24 league appearances and two more apiece in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. He’s played the entire 90 minutes in eight of the last 10 English Championship matches.
The Portuguese youth international made his professional debut with Peterborough United in 2015 and played 108 games for the League One side before a move to Wigan in 2018.
Lopes made 14 appearances on loan with Gillingham FC before his August transfer to Hull City.
