D.C. United’s rumored deal that would send Chris Pontius to the Philadelphia Union hasn’t even officially gone through, but the Black-and-Red appear to have already lined up a replacement.
The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that D.C. is on the verge of acquiring attacker Lamar Neagle from the Seattle Sounders in exchange for allocation money.
A Seattle-area native, Neagle has spent six years in MLS, five of them with the Sounders. Capable of playing on the wing or up top, the 28-year-old has 28 goals and 19 assists in 139 career regular season games.
He’s been a fixture for the Sounders in each of the last three years, recording a career-best nine goals and nine assists to help Seattle to the 2014 Supporters’ Shield before tallying four goals and two assists in 31 appearances, 23 of which were starts, in 2015.
The move was first rumored over the weekend, when a Seattleite was told by a man claiming to be Neagle’s father-in-law that the UNLV product had been traded to United.
