The Colorado Rapids are set to sell talented young striker Deshorn Brown to Norway's Vålerenga, according to a Norwegian media report.
The Denver Post also reported on Saturday that Vålerenga managing director Stig-Ove Sandnes was spotted visiting the Rapids' Dick's Sporting Goods Park home last week, accompanied by Paul Bravo, Colorado's VP of soccer operations and technical director.
The Post added that Brown was held out of the Rapids' training session that day. A Jamaican international, Brown has led Colorado in scoring the past two seasons with 10 goals in each campaign. He logged two minutes off the bench in the Rapids' 0-0 season-opening draw at Philadelphia on March 7; Colorado were idle this past weekend.
“Probably there are only details remaining before the attacking player is ready for Vålerenga,” reported VG Sporten on Wednesday. “The Oslo club should have a firm belief that Brown can be a hit in the [Norwegian] premier league, [whose kickoff] is now only three and a half weeks away.”
Vålerenga are seeking a new man to lead the line after selling Icelandic striker Vidar Örn Kjartansson, last year's leading scorer in the Tippeligaen with 25 goals in 29 games, to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Guoxin-Sainty in January for a reported transfer fee of more than $2.3 million.
The five-time Tippeligaen champions currently feature Canadian goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld on their roster. In 2007 they made Troy Perkins (now with the Seattle Sounders) their first-ever American signing.
