Goal of the Week

Philadelphia Union's Anthony Fontana wins AT&T Goal of the Week with stoppage-time golazo

Which long-range strike took home Goal of the Week honors?

After placing on Week 11's Team of the Week presented by Audi with a weekend brace, Philadelphia Union midfielder Anthony Fontana has taken home AT&T Goal of the Week honors for Week 11 of the 2020 MLS regular season.

Fontana beat out four other strikes with 44.33% of the vote, lasering home a game-winner in the 95th minute of a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution. The Homegrown midfielder also scored in the 73rd minute upon entering as a second-half substitute, sparking Philly to their fourth win in five games. Fontana’s goal earned plenty of style points and carried great significance.

FC Dallas newcomer Andres Ricaurte almost earned top billing, but instead slotted into second place with 40.57% of the total vote. The Colombian midfielder, on loan from Independiente Medellin, side-footed a scorching volley into the top corner for his first MLS goal. It was quite the introduction in Ricaurte’s first start, a 2-1 win over rivals Houston Dynamo in the Texas Derby.

Third place went to Real Salt Lake midfielder Justin Meram with 9.55% of the vote, as he delicately dribbled around several LAFC defenders before poking home in a 3-0 win midweek. Meram, whether it’s off the bench or starting, has added a spark to his new club.

New York City FC right back Anton Tinnherolm slotted into fourth place with 3.51% of the vote. The Swede launched a volley against FC Cincinnati on the weekend, and then fifth place was Memo Rodriguez’s with 2.04% of the vote. The Dynamo midfielder’s free kick was destined for the top corner.
