The Philadelphia Union announced on Monday that the club has parted ways with Carlos Valdes, with the Colombian defender's contract terminated by mutual consent.

Valdes has been on loan with Nacional of the Uruguayan Primera Division since February. The 2014 World Cup veteran originally joined Philly prior to the 2011 season and started 65 games in his first two full seasons with the Union.

He went on loan to Santa Fe for the 2013 season and again the following year to San Lorenzo. Valdes then traveled to Brazil as a member of Colombia's World Cup team, making one appearance in the tournament.

Afterwards he returned to the Union, and made eight appearances. In all, Valdes started 73 games in three seasons for the Union, scoring three goals and handing out one assist.
