The Philadelphia Union announced on Tuesday they have loaned goalkeeper Zac MacMath to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for the Rapids’ lowest pick in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft this month
MacMath will spend the 2015 regular season in Colorado and if a permanent transfer is executed, Colorado will send their highest first round pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft to Philadelphia.
Selected fifth overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, MacMath has appeared in 103 games for the Union, garnering a 34-39-29 record.
Last season he appeared in 29 games for the club, but the Union also have World Cup veteran and Algerian international Rais Mbolhi on the roster as well as Jamaican international Andre Blake, who the Union selected with the first overall pick in the 2014 SuperDraft.
The Rapids, meanwhile, have leaned heavily on 25-year-old Clint Irwin in net each of the past seasons (58 appearances), and also have 23-year-old John Berner, who appeared in five games last season.
The club traded Joe Nasco to New England after last season.
