The New York Red Bulls added an experienced goalkeeper to their roster on Tuesday, sending their third round pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft to the Chicago Fire in exchange for veteran netminder Kyle Reynish.

A career backup, the 31-year-old Reynish arrives in New York after making one league appearance in his lone season in Chicago. The UC-Santa Barbara product spent the first six years of his career at Real Salt Lake, where he made eight MLS appearances in fill-in duty for US national team ‘keeper Nick Rimando.

Reynish spent the fall of 2013 in New York, earning the NASL’s Golden Glove award given to the league’s top goalkeeper after notching five shutouts in 13 games for the New York Cosmos.

Tuesday’s trade gives the Red Bulls three goalkeepers, with Reynish set to join starter Luis Robles and 19-year-old Homegrown player Santiago Castaño on the roster. The Red Bulls sent ‘keeper Ryan Meara on a year-long loan to crosstown club New York City FC in December, receiving midfielder Sal Zizzo from NYCFC in return.
