It's another homecoming for the New England Revolution in 2020.

The Revs have acquired midfielder Lee Nguyen in trade from Inter Miami, the clubs announced Tuesday. Miami will receive a fourth-round selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft and up to $50,000 in General Allocation Money.

Nguyen, who turns 34 in October, has enjoyed a productive career in MLS with 54 goals and 58 assists across 244 appearances since his 2012 league debut. His best seasons were with the Revs from 2012-17, where he accumulated 51 goals and 49 assists. He helped lead the Revs to MLS Cup final 2014, where they lost to the LA Galaxy

The midfielder was traded to LAFC in 2018 and he was a key member of the midfield in their expansion season before continuing to be a regular in 2019. Inter Miami then selected him in the 2020 MLS Expansion Draft, but he only made five appearances off the bench, spanning a total of 92 minutes.

Nguyen is a prime candidate to replace the creative presence of injured star Carles Gil, who is likely out for the rest of 2020. New England also acquired Kekuta Manneh and Tommy McNamara this summer.

The midfielder isn't the only former favorite to return to the club in 2020, following Kelyn Rowe and Seth Sinovic coming back to the Revs this season.
