- The Red Bulls are coming off an unsuccessful trip to Orlando as they failed to get out of their group after beating Atlanta United in their opener. New York City FC had just three points but made it to the Knockout Stage, where they beat Toronto FC in the Round of 16 before bowing out in the quarterfinals.
- NYCFC scored the opening goal in three of their five matches at the MLS is Back Tournament, with Jesus Medina scoring two and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi scoring the other.
- The Red Bulls scored just once in Orlando, with Florian Valot scoring the lone goal of the match in their win vs. Atlanta.

- These two clubs met in the Round of 16 at the MLS is Back Tournament, with Philly winning 1-0 on the back of a Sergio Santos goal in the 63rd minute. This comes after the Union beat the Revs 6-1 last year at home.
- The Union scored first in each of their first five matches. Portland took the lead in their semifinal loss. New England scored first in two of their three group stage matches.
