TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The LA Galaxy have signed midfielder Kai Koreniuk from LA Galaxy II after he was named the USL Championship club’s Player of the Year in 2019.
Koreniuk, 22, scored nine goals across 28 appearances with Los Dos last year. He also appeared on loan with LA’s first team during a 2019 Leagues Cup game against Club Tijuana, assisting the opening goal.
“Kai is a developing player who we have seen progress with LA Galaxy II since joining our club,” said LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese in a team release. “We are confident Kai can continue to grow as a member of our first team and will provide valuable depth to our squad. We are pleased to add him to our roster.”
A Florida native, Koreniuk has played for both United States and Dutch youth national teams. He was previously at Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands, playing nearly four seasons, and also featured for AZ Alkmaar. Koreniuk featured at the U-21 level for both overseas clubs.
LA have shown a willingness to promote players from Los Dos, with center backs Daniel Steres and Nick DePuy both progressing through the side. Ethan Zubak and Efrain Alvarez, two Homegrown attacking players, have also played key roles for Los Dos.
