Like father, like son. Sort of.

LA Galaxy II forward Ariel Lassiter, son of former MLS great Roy Lassiter, has been called up to the Costa Rican Under-23 men's national team for the IMG Suncoast Pro Classic in Bradenton, Florida, the Galaxy announced Wednesday. The younger Lassiter was in the squad for a preseason match against the Philadelphia Union and could feature against Columbus Crew SC (Feb. 21), as well as in another pair of games during the tournament that runs from Feb. 18-28.

The 20-year-old forward, who was born in Turrialba, Costa Rica and played college soccer at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, signed with Los Dos prior to the 2015 USL campaign. He had previously played professionally for Swedish second division club GAIS, and scored one goal in 12 appearances.

The Lassiters are no strangers to playing at the international level. Roy, who still shares a piece of the MLS all-time single-season scoring record, represented the US national team on 34 occasions and scored four goals.

Ariel is a dual-national and recently said he was in contact with both the US and Costa Rican federations.
