Inter Miami CF head coach Diego Alonso confirmed center back Andres Reyes rejoined the team in training on Saturday and he’ll be available for the next match against the Philadelphia Union.
Reyes was stretchered off in the MLS is Back Tournament opener against Orlando City after a clash with Lions forward Dom Dwyer which led to pointed postgame comments from captain Luis Robles.
“Andres [Reyes] is surely coming back to training today with us,” he told media Saturday morning before practice. “We’re happy with the possibility that he can begin to train. What the doctors are telling me is that he could be ready for the next game.”
That next game comes on Tuesday (10:30 pm ET on TUDN, Twitter and TSN) against a Philadelphia Union team that won its opener and is considered by many to be a favorite for the tournament title.
“Philadelphia has a well-oiled system of play,” Alonso said. “They’ve been with the same coach for a while. They repeat patterns of play that they execute really well. We have to play a really good game to be capable of competing and winning.”
“The games we’ve played against [Philadelphia] in the preseason and now that we’ve seen them and now that we’re about to play them, the games are always going to be difficult. It’s going to be a game to the death and very difficult. We still have to do what we’ve been working on, stay concentrated, keep the ball and the finish off our opportunities with goals.”
Alonso and Torres both made it clear the club has shaken off its opening loss – one of three straight defeats to start the season in official competition – and the club’s commitment is unquestioned, both to the badge and the city.
“What I’m sure about is that we are defending a city [Miami] that wakes up every day to work with the hope of being better,” Alonso said. “We’re defending a team that required a lot of work to get here. Each person that had a hand so that Inter Miami could be in MLS woke up every day with the hope that we can be in MLS. And we as a team, the players, staff, the group fights every day to meet those dreams and win the next game. And every day we wake up with the hope of being better every game and being able to win the next game."
