TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Inter Miami CF are reportedly interested in signing Feyenoord captain Steven Berghuis, targeting the Dutch international attacker for a January move, according to reports.
The 28-year-old is on the Eredivisie side’s books until mid-2022, but Voetbal International reports a clause was added in a recent contract extension that would allow Berghuis to sign with another club.
Berghuis already has four goals and an assist in three appearances this season for Feyenoord after 15 goals a year ago, which was tied for the league lead, to go along with seven assists.
Berghuis came up through the youth ranks at FC Twente, where he made his professional debut in 2011.
After a loan stint with VVV-Venlo, Berghuis was transferred to AZ Alkmaar in 2012. Three years later, he made a $7M move to Watford, where he made just nine appearances. A loan to Feyenoord followed in 2016, with the Rotterdam-based club signing Berghuis in July 2017.
Berghuis has enjoyed his best offensive output in his career at Feyenoord with 70 goals and 49 assists in 161 career appearances.
He’s also made 15 appearances for the Dutch national team, now coached by former Atlanta United boss Frank de Boer. Berghuis, who moved up the youth national team level, was first called up for an international friendly against the US national team in 2015 and debuted for Oranje in another friendly against Ireland in 2016.
