A summer of having their depth tested kicks off Wednesday night for the Houston Dynamo in their fourth-round match of the US Open Cup against in-state rival Austin Aztex. The Dynamo feature six players on preliminary rosters for July’s Gold Cup, meaning youngsters like Rob Lovejoy and freshly signed Mauro Manotas could see action against the Aztex.
And the matchup with the Aztex likely won’t be easy. They feature one of USL’s leading scorers in former Chivas USA SuperDraft pick Kris Tyrpak (six goals in 13 games), are coached by former Dynamo player Paul Dalglish and beat Houston 1-0 in a preseason meeting earlier this year.
