Former FC Dallas goalkeeper Josh Lambo has found his way back onto a roster. Only this time it's in the NFL.
Amid Saturday's final round of roster cuts in the NFL, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Michael Gehlken reported that the San Diego Chargers had released veteran kicker Nick Novak, paving the way for Lambo to make the final 53-man roster after a strong preseason.
Lambo, a former US U-20 international, went 4-for-4 in preseason field goal attempts for San Diego, including two from 40 to 49 yards and one from over 50 yards. That total included a game-winning kick against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 22.
The 24-year-old was originally selected eighth overall in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas, but his only professional appearances came on loan at second-division FC Tampa Bay in 2010. He was waived by Dallas after the 2011 season and though he trialed with D.C. United in 2012, he did not make the team.
Lambo eventually enrolled at Texas A&M University for the Fall 2012 semester, where he joined the football team as a placekicker. He took over starting duties for the 2013 season and remained in that role through the end of the 2014 season before signing a free-agent contract with the Chargers.
