We now know when Cuauhtemoc Blanco’s playing career will end and his political one will begin.
The 42-year-old Mexico star, who is still going strong in the Mexican top flight with Puebla and in January announced he’d be hanging up his boots to run for mayor of Cuernavaca, the capital and largest city of the state of Morelos, will play his last game April 18 against Atlas as he begins his campaign for the June election.
Blanco, who starred in MLS for the Chicago Fire from 2007-09 and played in three World Cups with El Tri, isn’t exactly leaving the game with nothing left in the tank. He’s recorded an assist in three appearances in the current campaign and scored a goal and netted an assist in a Copa MX win over Atlante last month.
