FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo shot down on Monday the rumors that the club had made an offer for AC Milan midfielder Michael Essien, categorically denying to The Dallas Morning News a European report that last week linked FCD with the 32-year-old Ghanaian international.
“No, it’s not accurate. No, it’s not at all,” Clavijo told the Morning News when asked about the Essien rumors. “We know Michael Essien of course. Everybody knows him, but we didn’t offer anything at all.”
While we likely won’t be seeing Essien in Texas any time soon, FC Dallas could make some new additions before the season starts. Clavijo just returned from a scouting trip to Uruguay for the 2015 CONMEBOL U-20 Championship, and FC Dallas also scouted the recently completed CONCACAF U-20 tournament in Jamaica.
“We went to the CONCACAF U-20 and we went to the South American U-20, because hopefully on those teams are the next future starter for FC Dallas," Clavijo said. "Yes, we will try to figure out our next move for some of those players.”
Clavijo also commented on the health of FCD defender/midfielder Kellyn Acosta, telling the Morning News that the club plans to take it slowly with the Homegrown player after he injured the same knee while with the US U-20’s that he underwent surgery on last year.
