TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
FC Dallas
have signed Homegrown goalkeeper
Carlos Avilez
to a first-team contract, the club announced Thursday.
Avilez, 21, spent last season with North Texas SC, FC Dallas' USL League One affiliate, where he was a standout in net for the North Texas team that won the league title, starting 20 games and recording nine clean sheets. He becomes the club's league-leading 29th Homegrown player to sign with the first team.
Avilez will be under contract for the 2020 season with options for future seasons, and will travel with the team to Orlando for the MLS is Back Tournament. Avilez will likely provide depth behind Jimmy Maurer and Kyle Zobeck after starting goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez was suspended on June 6 following a report to the Frisco Police Department alleging incidents of domestic abuse.
“This is something I’ve been working for since I joined the club at 12 years old,” Avilez said in a statement. “I’m very humbled to say I’m very happy and satisfied with myself, the coaching staff, my family and everyone in FC Dallas family for pushing me every year I’ve been with the club.”
Avilez joined the FC Dallas academy in 2012 and was the first academy product to sign a contract through the club’s affiliation with USL side Oklahoma City Energy FC in 2017.
