Fabian Castillo most likely ticked off one of his professional aspirations on Tuesday by pulling on a yellow jersey.
Not just any yellow jersey, mind you, as the FC Dallas star suited up and made his Colombian senior national team debut in a 1-1 friendly draw against Peru at Red Bull Arena. Replacing Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, who appeared to suffer an injury just before the hour mark, Castillo had two shots on the night for Los Cafeteros.
The 23-year-old is not the only MLS player to play for Colombia in recent years, as both defender Carlos Valdes and goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon, both formerly of the Philadelphia Union, played regularly for the national team. Castillo is the first MLS player, however, to get a look from current Colombia coach Jose Pekerman while making his name in the league. Castillo has been with FC Dallas since 2011, and has blossomed into one of MLS' best young stars.
Colombia's next game will come once again against Peru, as the countries will square off on Oct. 8 in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.
