Ex-Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron continued his flying start to the new season, producing a sublime assist in Newcastle United's League Cup second-round game against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.
Making his first start of the season after coming off the bench to set up a goal in Newcastle's Premier League opener at the weekend, Almiron played a defense-splitting reverse pass to send new signing Ryan Fraser in behind to score the game's opening goal.
After a slow start to life in England's North East following his transfer from Atlanta for a reported $27 million fee, Almiron shone in the second half of last season. The Paraguay playmaker finished the campaign with eight goals in all competitions.
Atlanta have struggled to replace Almiron since his departure in January 2019. South American Player of the Year Pity Martinez was brought in as Almiron's replacement but failed to replicate his predecessor's stunning productivity before leaving to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr for a reported $18 million fee last week.
