Erick “Cubo” Torres can’t stop scoring.
The Houston Dynamo’s on-loan forward helped Chivas Guadalajara into the Copa MX final on Wednesday night, scoring the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute of Guadalajara’s 2-1 comeback victory over Chiapas (watch here).
The strike was Torres’ third goal in two games; the 22-year-old Designated Player struck twice on Saturday to help relegation-threatened Chivas to an important 2-1 victory against Puebla in Liga MX action. Torres left the game in the 81st minute.
Torres came up through Chivas’ youth ranks, eventually graduating from the club’s academy and making his professional debut with his hometown club. He never quite found his footing with the first team, eventually getting sent on loan to Chivas USA in the summer of 2013.
He quickly became a star in MLS, scoring 22 goals in 44 games with Chivas USA before engineering a permanent move from Chivas to the Dynamo in December. Part of that deal included a loan back to Guadalajara, with Torres not set to join Houston until the summer.
Chivas will face either Monterrey or Puebla in the Copa MX final. Puebla have been led by former US international Herculez Gomez, tied for the tournament scoring lead with five goals. Torres, with three, is tied for sixth, and he also converted a penalty kick in Chivas' shootout win over Querétaro in the quarterfinals.
