Young striker Erick "Cubo" Torres wrote the latest chapter in his career on Saturday in most dramatic fashion.
The forward, on loan to Chivas de Guadalajara from the Houston Dynamo, got some rare minutes off the bench in a crucial relegation "six-pointer" against Puebla, and he made the time count.
Despite scoring two goals this season in the Copa MX, Torres had only made two previous appearances for the club in Liga MX play, and had yet to score in the league this year. If Chivas lost to Puebla, they would drop to the very bottom of the relegation table, with the team in that spot at the end of the campaign dropping automatically to the second-division Ascenso MX for next season.
Down 1-0 following a Puebla penalty kick, Chivas manager Jose Manuel de la Torre brought Cubo off the bench around the hour mark, and the 22-year-old made his time count, scoring two goals to lead Chivas to a 2-1 victory.
Here's footage of the first goal, to tie the game up at 1-1:
And this is the crucial go-ahead goal:
Torres came up through Chivas' youth ranks, and made his professional debut for his hometown club. After breaking out as a teenager, he struggled in Guadalajara, eventually going to Chivas USA on loan in 2013 for a fresh start. Despite the ups and downs so far in his second stint with CD Guadalajara, his performance against Puebla won't soon be forgotten by fans of the club.

Though the result is quite important against a direct relegation rival, Chivas still have work to do to ensure they avoid the drop, with seven games left to go in the 2015 Clausura.
On the other hand, they are looking good so far to make the Liga MX playoffs, so perhaps Cubo will have more storybook goals in the weeks to come before heading to Houston to resume his MLS career.
