Inter Miami will never forget their first win, and neither will co-owner and president of soccer operations David Beckham – even if he wasn't in attendance as Inter Miami CF Stadium officially opened.
Beckham celebrated last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Florida rivals Orlando City SC with a heartfelt post on Instagram from the other side of the Atlantic. Following two Julian Carranza goals and a game-winner from Rodolfo Pizarro, Beckham was all smiles.
“It’s 3 am, hair’s a mess, flags the wrong way around, but don’t care [because] we won,” he wrote.
The victory came in Miami’s sixth MLS game, after they previously suffered five defeats by a one-goal margin. But there’s some momentum around the team, especially after World Cup-winner Blaise Matuidi was signed during the Secondary Transfer Window and their third Designated Player slot remains open.
Whatever comes next roster-wise, there’s sweet relief for Miami now that three points are in the bag. And it comes with a personal touch for Beckham, with the entire project stretching back to the mid 2010s.
Miami will look to make it two in a row when hosting Atlanta United, 2018 MLS Cup champions, on Wednesday evening (8 pm ET | TSN2, MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US).
