COLORADO RAPIDS vs. REAL SALT LAKE
DICK’S SPORTING GOODS PARK, Commerce City, Colo.
July 11, 2015 (MLS Game #190)
9 pm ET (MLS Live, Altitude, KMYU)

It’s the second meeting for the Rocky Mountain Cup this season when the Colorado Rapids play host to Real Salt Lake on Saturday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids put an end to a six-game winless run in their return home last weekend, knocking off Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 in Commerce City. Real are just five points further ahead of their rivals in the division, their winless run stretched to three games last weekend following a 1-1 draw with Orlando City SC at Rio Tinto Stadium.

  • The Rapids put an end to their six-game winless streak as Kevin Doyle scored his first goal since coming to the club and Vicente Sanchez scored his first goal of the season, leading to a 2-1 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday evening. The Rapids have won two league games since April 18, over their last 13 games – both coming against Western Conference-leading Vancouver.
  • Sebastian Jaime scored for a second consecutive match as Real Salt Lake played to a second consecutive draw, reaching a 1-1 result with Orlando City SC on Saturday evening. Jaime has scored in Real’s last four games at Rio Tinto Stadium over all competitions.
  • The teams are meeting for the second time this season. They played to a scoreless draw June 7 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
  • RSL have not lost in the last five meetings between the teams, with three wins and two draws. Real won all three meetings between the teams a year ago.
  • The rivals play for the Rocky Mountain Cup, a trophy awarded by the supporters groups of both teams. The rivalry has lived up to its billing in past seasons, as last-day results sent RSL into the MLS Cup Playoffs ahead of their Rocky Mountain rivals in 2008 (a last-minute RSL goal for a 1-1 tie) and 2009 (a 3-0 Real win). In 2007, the RSL win also ended the Rapids’ playoff hopes, though RSL also did not qualify.
