A pair of clubs needing to begin their long climb off the foot of the conference tables meet when the Chicago Fire play host to the Colorado Rapids at Toyota Park on Saturday evening. The Fire return home following a crucial point gained in a dramatic 3-3 draw at Philadelphia Union last weekend, now sitting five points out of the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference. The Rapids had their current losing skid extended to three games in a 1-0 defeat at the San Jose Earthquakes last Friday, now sitting 11 points out of sixth place and the final postseason place in the West.
- The Fire weren’t able to make it a first win away from home this season, but it almost felt like one: Kennedy Igboananike scoring his second goal of the game in stoppage time – after Philadelphia’s Sebastien Le Toux had netted the go-ahead goal in the 90th minute – to leave the teams in a 3-3 draw Sunday afternoon at PPL Park.
- The Rapids saw their losing slide reach three games – their longest of the season –suffering a 1-0 loss at the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday evening.
- The teams met once a season ago, reaching a scoreless draw June 4 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
- The Rapids have never won in Bridgeview. Colorado’s last road win against Chicago came in 2004, at Soldier Field. Colorado’s 2-0 win in 2012 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park snapped a three-game winless streak in home games vs. the Fire. They had last won in Commerce City in the series in 2008. The Rapids are unbeaten in their last four home encounters with the Fire, with one win and three draws.
