TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Atlanta United bolstered its attacking depth ahead of the MLS is Back Tournament by signing 17-year-old Tyler Wolff to a Homegrown Player contract, the club announced Thursday.
The son of former US men’s national team player and current Austin FC coach Josh Wolff is the seventh Homegrown player in the club’s history.
“Tyler is a young attacking player who has shown a lot of potential and we’re excited that his development will continue at Atlanta United,” Atlanta VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a statement. “Since joining the academy, he’s shown the drive and determination to get to that next level. We’ve been able to challenge Tyler in high-level academy matches, the USL environment, and First Team environment and he’s shown he’s belonged at each level. On the field, he has the quality and versatility to play anywhere across the front four and we believe he has capability to grow into a key contributor at the pro level.”
The winger, who previously competed for the Columbus Crew SC academy when his father was an assistant coach there, joined the Atlanta United academy before the 2019-20 season and scored 14 goals in the abbreviated campaign.
Wolff joined Atlanta’s first team in preseason camp, drawing a penalty in a friendly against Birmingham Legion FC on Feb. 8. He made his USL debut for Atlanta United 2 on March 8 where he played 62 minutes against the Charleston Battery.
