With the Portland Timbers and Philadelphia Union meeting in the first semifinal of the MLS is Back Tournament Wednesday night (8 pm ET | FS1/FOX Deportes, UniMas, TSN, TVA Sports 2), it's worth remembering when the fixture incited a memorable jest from Philly's Sons of Ben faithful.
In a regular season meeting between the clubs, the famed supporters group paid homage — of a sort — to Portland icon Timber Joey, obtaining a roll of bread from shirt sponsors Bimbo to replicate their opponent's widely known goal celebration ritual.
The home team made sure the Sons of Bens had plenty of opportunities to deliver the joke, completing a 3-0 victory.
Portland got the last laugh, though. The Timbers went on to win the 2015 MLS Cup. And they've won all four regular season meetings against the Union since.
